MEDFIELD, Mass. - Trailing after doubles, the Babson College men's tennis team rallied to win the first four completed singles matches on its way to defeating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 5-4 in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Kingsbury Tennis Club.

Winners of two straight, Babson improves to 3-1 on the year. Rensselaer, which finished last season ranked 23rd in the ITA Division III poll, is now 2-1 overall.

The Engineers got off to a solid start as the top singles team of Aiden Drover-Matinen (Portugal Cove-St. Philips, Newfoundland) and Peter Lohrbach (Little Neck, NY / North Port) and the number two unit of Igor Visnevshij (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Max Safanov (Radnor, PA / Radnor) both came out on top.

Senior Kian Yazdi (London, England) produced the Beavers' first singles point with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number three, and junior Maxwell Conlin (Alameda, Calif.) followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number two singles. Classmate Parker Law (White Bear Lake, Minn.) posted a 6-2, 6-2 result at number six and first-year Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.) claimed the decisive point in the match with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at number five singles.

Drover-Matinen captured number one singles with a three-set victory, 7-5, 4-6, 10-4, over Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway) and Visnevskij closed it out with a three-set win of his own, 6-2, 0-6, 7-6.

RPI returns to action on March 6 against Carnegie Mellon University in Orlando, Fla., while Babson is back on the court on March 13 at Chapman University in Orange, Calif.
