Emilio Van Cotthem won a second straight tiebreak and then came back from down 3-0 to win the third set at No. 2 singles to break a 4-4 tie and give the No. 29 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team a 5-4 victory at No. 14 Brandeis University on Saturday. The Engineers have now won 10 straight matches and are 12-2, while the Judges fall to 10-5.
RPI won two of three doubles matches and then fell behind 4-3 after the first four singles matches, but junior
Abraham Yohannes won in three sets at No. 1 (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) to tie things up. Van Cotthem dropped the first set at No. 2 singles 4-6, but battled back in the next two, winning 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, to clinch the match for the visitors.
Rensselaer's No. 1 player,
Aiden Drover-Mattinen, went 2-0 in the match, pairing with
Peter Lohrbach to win at first doubles (8-6) before beating Adam Tzeng in singles 6-3, 6-4.
