TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Grace Garman, who had two top 2 finishes with season-best performances, has earned the Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Week award by the Liberty League, it has been announced. She and her teammates competed in the non team scoring Williams College Invitational, which also included Russell Sage College.
Garman (Amherst, MA / Amherst Regional) won the javelin and was second in the discus. She captured the javelin with a maximum distance of 30.86 meters, which came on her first attempt. There were nine others in the event and the runner-up reached only 25.61 meters.
The freshman biomedical engineering major was second in the 8-competitor discus with a throw of 30.50 meters, which she achieved on her second attempt. Teammate
Morgan Daley (Norfolk, CT / Northwestern Regional), a graduate student, won with a throw of 33.73 meters.
Garman did not compete in either the shot put or hammer throw. Her best collegiate marks in both came at the Hamilton College Continental Invitational on April 2 when she reached 8.07 meters in the shot put and 20.60 in the hammer throw.
Rensselaer returns to Williamstown, Mass., on Saturday for the Farley Invitational.
