FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Senior
Joey Harrigan shot a 2-over, 72 for a top-10 finish and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf team registered a 298 to finish in fourth place in the two-day Farmingdale State Spring Invitational held at Bethpage State Park Red Course. The Engineers shot a +18, 597 (299-298) and trailed NYU (577), Skidmore (592) and Husson (595) in the 7-school field. Colby Mitchell (-1, 139) of Nichols earned medalist.
Harrigan jumped 10 spots from Saturday's first round to finish tied for ninth. On Sunday, he had two birdies on the front (2 & 7) and went out at -1, 34. He then birdied the par-4, 492-yard 10th hole before giving two shots back on Nos. 11 and 12. He later birdied No. 15 (482 yards) and finished 3-over on the back. Harrigan was two strokes from sixth place and three from third.
Freshman
Rodrigo Muelas was second on the team with a +9, 145, which included a 5-over, 75 on Sunday. He countered a +5 on the front nine by going even on the back, which included a birdie-2 on the par-3, 208-yard 12th hole. Otherwise he had one bogey and seven pars and finished tied for 14th place.
Thomas Fraser, a junior, was two strokes behind Muelas after a +5, 151 (76-75). He finished Sunday with 13 pars, including nine in a row from hole 8 to hole 16.
Senior
Trent Han (77-76) and freshman
Jacob Lindsay (74-79) also played for the Engineers, both tying for 22nd place.
