WILTON, N.Y. - In a battle of the Liberty League's top two teams, No. 29 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) held off upset minded Skidmore College 5-4 in a match played at the Wilton YMCA. RPI is 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while the unranked Thoroughbreds are 6-8 and 5-2.
The Engineers won two of three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
Aiden Drover-Mattinen and
Peter Lohrbach were victorious at No. 1 and the No. 3 tandem of
Eddie Wu and
Suhas Krishnan also triumphed. Both matches finished with scores of 8-6.
In singles, Drover-Mattinen won at No. 1,
Emilio Van Cotthem captured No. 2 and Lohrbach won at No. 6. Van Cotthem outlasted Sergiu Celebidachi in three sets.
The Engineers is action again on Tuesday at league foe Union College (4pm), while the Thoroughbreds visit Amherst College on April 16 at 1pm.
