TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's cross country programs begin their seasons on Friday, September 2, tri-meet at Harkness Track & Field that includes The College of Saint Rose and Sage College. The Engineers, who are led by head coach
John Lynch, have seven meets scheduled for 2022.
RPI's men's team qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2021, finishing 14th on the men's side, while the women's team sent
Nia Goddard to Louisville as individual competitor. It was the fifth straight appearance for the men, who were 13th in 2016, while the women snapped a five-season streak of qualifying.
Highlights/notables of the 2022 schedule include:
- Open season at home against The College of Saint Rose and Sage College on September 2
- Engineers then travel to The Crossing of Colonie for the MAAC Preview, hosted by Siena College on September 10 (10:30am)
- Second meet in the Capital Region
- Men took second in 2018, while the women ran fifth
- RPI takes part in the Paul Short Invitational on September 30
- The men were 2nd of 42, while the women were 20th of 39 in last year's edition
- The 26th Annual James Earley Invitational is October 8 at Westfield State
- Engineers compete in Rowan University Border Battle on October 15
- Back in field for the first time since 2018
- Men took third of 42, while women finished sixth of 39
- Liberty League Championship in Poughkeepsie on October 29
- Men were league champions last season, while women placed second
- NCAA Atlantic Regional is set for Saturday, November 12 at St. Lawrence in Canton
- Men ran third at the 2021 regional hosted by Conneticut College, while women were eighth
