Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team got a goal in each quarter with four different student-athletes scoring and the Engineers defeated SUNY Brockport 4-1 in a non-league game.
Freshman
Grace Johnson opened the scoring at 9:43 of the first quarter, a frame that saw the Engineers outshoot the Golden Eagles 5-1. RPI also had four of its 20 penalty corners in the first 15 minutes.
Mikayla Berman doubled the lead 10 minutes later with her first goal of the year but Brockport cut its deficit in half with a Taylor Weber goal at 27:03. Rensselaer held the advantage in shots (10-3), shots on goal (8-1) and penalty corners (7-3) at the break.
The second half was more of the same with the Engineers again scoring twice.
Rachel Banister scored her second of the season 6:19 into the third quarter and
Delana Bonci got her first off assists from
Kaitlyn Stulen and
Brianna Duba in the fourth. They took advantage of one of 13 penalty corners in the second half.
Jen Richardson made four saves in the game with one coming in the third quarter and three in the fourth. Ella Buchanan had eight saves for the Golden Eagles with three coming in the final frame.
RPI is right back in action on Sunday afternoon at Keystone College, while Brockport plays again on Wednesday against Utica University.
