SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team began the 2022-23 season at the Union Invitational and the Engineers posted a singles mark of 16-3 and a doubles record of 8-0. The event was a one day round robin affair as two teams originally scheduled to compete dropped out.

In singles, freshman Sabrina Grewal won three matches, including an 8-0 decision in Round 2 and an 8-2 win in Round 3, while six others were 2-0. Among them was sophomore Brooke Bauer, who had an 8-0 win in the first round, and freshman Nikki Ridenour, who posted an 8-7 (7) win in Round 1.

The doubles teams had even more success with a highlight being an 8-6 win from the tandem of Bauer and Nitya Subramaniam, who battled back from a 3-6 deficit to win 8-6 in the third round. Bauer also had a win with Grewal, 8-3 in the fourth, and Krisia Flores-Gonzalez and Natalie Cipriano won 8-0 in their third round match.

Flores-Gonzalez and Cipriano were one of three teams to go 2-0 for RPI, which competes in the Siena College Invitational at Sharp Courts in Troy next weekend.
