CLINTON, N.Y. - The duo of
Lorna Flores Gonzalez and
Nikki Ridenour earned an 8-1 win in the quarterfinals and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis teammates will compete in the semis of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional being held at Hamilton College. They will be on the court at 9am against a pair from the host Continentals.
Flores Gonzalez and Ridenour began the day in the Round of 16, where they came back from a 6-1 deficit to defeat a duo from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) 8-7 (2). They advanced to face another team from TCNJ, which they beat by the 8-1 score.
Also in doubles,
Masha Karach and
Brooke Bauer competed in the Round of 16 but lost 8-4 to the Hamilton duo that eventually advanced to the semifinals.
Ridenour, Flores Gonzalez and
Rani Jones competed in singles on Saturday with Ridenour winning her first match of the day before being eliminated by the top seed in the field. She won 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 10-5 in the Round of 16 but lost in the quarters to Josephine Libby of Rochester 6-4, 6-4 in the quarters.
Flores Gonzalez was defeated 6-4, 6-2 and Jones fell 6-3, 6-1.
