TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team made a late push in the fourth quarter, outshooting the Skidmore College Throughbreds 7-3 in the final frame, but fell by a final score of 4-1 on Friday evening at Harkness Field.
It was a flurry of scores in the first quarter, as Skidmore opened the scoring just one minute in as Brooke Tunnicliffe scored the first goal unassisted, before CC Wetter did the same at the six minute mark as the Throughbreds took an early 2-0 lead.
RPI fought back with a tally in the 11
th minute, as
Nina Caprio was able to score from the right side of the field, sneaking a shot by the goalie on an assist from
Lauren McCarthy to bring the score to 2-1. In favor of Skidmore.
The score stayed the same into the half, before Skidmore caught goals in the third and fourth quarters thanks to Wetter collecting a hat trick as she pumped the lead up to 4-1. RPI made a push in the final 15 minutes, but could not find the goal as the Throughbreds hung on for the win.
Wetter's three goals led the way offensively for Skidmore, while Tunnicliffe added an assist with her goal. Both Caprio and
Emily Dubord led the Engineers with two shots on net apiece.
RPI returns to action on Sunday, October 15 at 1 p.m. when they face off with St. Lawrence on the road in Liberty League action.
