CANTON, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team stood tall for 45 minutes before junior
Lauren McCarthy put home the lone goal of the game as the Engineers took a 1-0 victory over the St. Lawrence Saints in Liberty League action on Sunday.
RPI started slow, but came on strong in the second quarter with a game-high eight shots to St. Lawrence's two. However, strong play by both goalies kept the game scoreless through the half.
The score remained scoreless through the third quarter and into the fourth. It only took 45 seconds into the fourth quarter for McCarthy to collect her unassisted goal, giving the Engineers a 1-0 lead.
RPI goaltender

The Engineers return to action next Friday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. when they hit the road to take on Ithaca in league action.
