ITHACA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming and diving team maintained their pace at the front of the pack, sitting in third place after the third day at the Liberty League Championships at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium at Ithaca College.
Junior
Nicholas Stefanidis set the tone, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in an NCAA B-cut time of 55.44 seconds. Stefanidis shattered the championship and association record of 55.63 seconds set last year by Brendan Kapp of RIT. Kapp finished as the runner-up to Stefanidis in 55.85 seconds.
Tony Min (4
th) and
Jake Fassora (5
th) had solid finishes in the 200-yard butterfly, while
William Tan joined Stefanidis in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing sixth.
Rounding out the day for RPI was a third place finish from the 800 freestyle relay team consisting of
Andy Palmer,
Jimmy Zhen,
Ethan Gadbois, and
Mike Dowd.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, February 18 at 10 a.m. for the final day of action at the championships, beginning the day with prelims before finals in the evening.
