BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's track & field teams were both represented in the 3000 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships and the Engineers came out with All-America certificates in both. Seniors
Matt Lecky and
Morgan Lee each earned seventh place finishes in their respective 20-competitor races. Lee did so while setting the RPI and Liberty League records.
Lecky ran an 8:08.97 to finish within a second of a top 5 finish. He was only .11 from sixth and .24 from fifth place, while finishing .11 ahead of the eighth place finisher.

Lee's record-breaking performance was 9:34.10, which was 2.16 seconds in front of the eighth place finisher and less than a second from sixth. She was fewer than two seconds from fifth place.

Fiona Smith of St. Benedict won the women's 3000 meters with a time of 9:25.62 and Ethan Gregg of Wisconsin-La Crosse captured the men's in 8:01.23.
