LATHAM, N.Y. - Senior
Abraham Yohannes came back from a 5-3 deficit in the third set to win at No. 3 singles and clinch a 5-4 victory for the No. 35 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team over No. 24 Brandeis University in a non-league match at Tri City Fitness. Both teams are now 4-4.
With the match tied at 4-4, Yohannes and Simon Kauppila split the first two sets at 6-1 for Yohannes and 6-3 for Kauppila. The third set began with Kauppila winning five of the first eight games before Yohannes battled to capture four straight for a 7-5 set victory and a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 match win.
Yohannes also teamed with
Igor Visnevskij to earn a doubles point in a tiebreak at No. 2, 8-7 (7-4).
Max Safanov and
Bryce Burnham also had a doubles win, capturing No. 3, 8-6, for a 2-1 team lead heading into singles.
