POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The No. 37 Vassar College men's tennis team recorded its fourth straight victory on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers earned a 7-2 victory over No. 35 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) inside Walker Field House. The Brewers improve to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in Liberty League play, while the Engineers fall to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
Vassar freshmen duo Fernando Bauermeister and Nolan Kubiak battled to a 8-7 (7-4) victory over
Aiden Drover-Mattinen and
Andy Zhu at No. 1 doubles followed by RPI's
Igor Visnevskijj and
Abraham Yohannes winning 8-6 over freshmen Miles Sondergaard Jensen and Pedro Cattaruzzi at No. 2. No. 3 saw Brewers rookie Ethan Mantell and sophomore James Balon triumphing 8-7 (7-5) over
Max Safanov and
Bryce Burnham.
Mantell took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Safanov at No. 6 singles before Balon recorded a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 victory over
Jonathan McMillan at No. 5. Junior Benjamin Almquist earned a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win against Zhu at No. 2 followed by sophomore Arnav Agostinho triumphing 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 over Burnham.
Bauermeister scored a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win against Drover-Mattinen at the top flight while Yohannes earned a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory against Kubiak at three.
