LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 22 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team won two of three double matches, but the Engineers could not hold off No. 36 Occidental College in singles as the Engineers dropped a 5-4 decision to the Tigers. RPI falls to 2-3 overall, while Oxy is now 5-2.
After each of the doubles were decided without tiebreakers, four of the singles matches went to third sets with Rensselaer going 2-2 in such contests. Senior
Abraham Yohannes was victorious at No. 3 - after having earned a point in doubles with
Igor Visnevskij - with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win.
Bryce Burnham also had two wins for the visitors with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 singles triumph after an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles with
Max Safanov.
