TROY, N.Y. - Five different student-athletes had two wins apiece as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team defeated Union College 9-0 in a Liberty League contest at Sharp Courts. The No. 30 Engineers improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while the Dutchmen drop to 4-7 and 2-3.
RPI won the three doubles matches by only losing seven games in total, including an 8-1 win at No. 3 by
Max Safanov and
Bryce Burnham.
Abraham Yohannes, who joined
Igor Visnevskij at No. 2 doubles (8-2), gave the home team a 4-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles before Visnevskij clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
Two singles matches went to third sets with RPI's
Andy Zhu posting a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 win at No. 2 and
Jonathan McMillan winning 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 at No. 5.
