Box Score 1 TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team set a new mark on Friday afternoon, as they collected their season-high 12
th straight win in a doubleheader sweep of Ithaca College by 3-0 and 2-0 final scores. RPI improve their record to 23-5 overall while Ithaca moves to 14-9-1 overall. The Engineers have won 22 of their last 23 games this season.
Also with the wins, head coach
Amber Maisonet eclipsed 300 career victories, the first in program history to reach the milestone.
Game 1
The Engineers got things going early, as
Alex Ledger delivered an RBI double to center field in the bottom of the first inning, scoring both
Erin Askins and
Catherine Worthington to make it 2-0 Engineers.
Things stayed 2-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when
Callista Adorno also knocked a double into center field, scoring Askins for the second time in the game to give the Engineers some wiggle room with a 3-0 lead.
Alexis Cooke held the Bombers in check for five innings, surrendering only four hits and one walk along the way.
Brooke Sroczinski finished off the final two innings, facing one over the minimum for her eighth save of the season.
Game 2
Erika Holowka pitched 4.1 innings of shutout ball as the Engineers and Bombers battled to a scoreless 0-0 tie into the bottom of the sixth inning. To that point, a triple by
Maddy Brooks in the bottom of the third was the only hit of the game up to that point.
Brooks kickstarted the inning in the bottom of the sixth, smacking a double to left field to lead off the inning. She made her way to third on a wild pitch, and scored the ice breaker after a single from Askins to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead.
With two out in the inning, Askins came in to score from second base as Adorno singled to center field, giving RPI a slim 2-0 lead.
However, the lead was big enough as Sroczinski once again closed the door. She would pitch around a two-out double and strike out the side to end the game and give RPI their second victory of the day.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. when they square off with Union at Doris Robison Field.
