TROY, N.Y. - In a Liberty League matchup between nationally-ranked teams, the No. 30 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team defeated No. 29 Skidmore College 7-2 at Sharp Courts. RPI improves to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while the Thoroughbreds drop to 7-6 and 4-1.
RPI's top duo of
Aiden Drover-Mattinen and
Andy Zhu combined for a win at No. 1 doubles before both winning their singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. They teamed up to win 8-7 (6-0) in doubles with Drover-Mattinen finishing the day with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles. Zhu also came back to win his singles match, 4-6, 6-1, 10-3.Â
Also winning twice for the Engineers was
Bryce Burnham, who earned an 8-3 win with
Max Safanov at No. 3 doubles before winning 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Safanov did not play singles.
