GENESEO, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Tess Garchinsky made a strong first impression on the 2023 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Field Hockey season on Friday afternoon, as she collected seven saves in her RPI debut in a 2-0 loss at SUNY Geneseo.
Garchinsky made four saves in the first half, with three saves on penalty shots. She helped keep things scoreless into the second quarter as the Knights finally broke the ice with a goal. Sam Lewis scored for Geneseo, with Ava Schillaci tossing in the helper for a 1-0 lead.
The score stood through halftime and into the third quarter, where Sara O'Donnell added the cushion for the Knights on another assist from Ava Schillaci at the 32:55 mark.
The Engineers finished with two shots on the game, with
Abi Herrington and
Lauren McCarthy providing the attempts. Lewis finished with a team-high four shots for Geneseo, as the Knights totaled 19 on the game and nine on target.
RPI returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. when they take on Hartwick College in Oneonta.
