ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team finished their opening weekend in a road matchup at Hartwick College on Sunday afternoon, with the Engineers falling 4-0.
Things played even through a majority of the first quarter, until Hartwick struck with just under 90 seconds remaining. Libby Fortin scored her first goal of the season to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Fortin struck again for the second goal of the game in the second quarter, once again scoring late to give Hartwick a 2-0 lead heading into the half.
Less than three minutes into the half, Hartwick added their third goal courtesy of Danielle Hand, with Caroline Aspuru providing the assist for a 3-0 lead. In the final minute of the third quarter, the Hawks captured their final score of the game, with Holly Callore putting one past
Tess Garchinsky on an assist from Ashley Tricarico for a 4-0 lead that remained through the final horn.
Fortin collected six total shots with three on goal, while Calore added five for Hartwick. For RPI,

Abby Peterson each record a shot as well.
RPI returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when they play at home in Troy to take on Hamilton College on Harkness Field at 5 p.m.
