BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team received goals from six different Engineers in tonight's 6-3 season-opening win at Canisius.
Jack Agnew, Tyler Hotson, Elliott McDermott, John Beaton, Rainers Rullers, and Jagger Tapper each found the back of the night for RPI.
McDermott and Tapper each tallied an assist as well to cap off a multi-point night. Max Smolinski, Will Gilson, Jakob Lee, Jack Brackett, Dovar Tinling, Arvils Bergmanis, and Jeremie Payant also provided one assist apiece in the triumph.
After Agnew put RPI ahead early with a clapper from the point, Canisius responded with consecutive goals, including a go-ahead score 100 seconds into the second period.
Trailing 2-1, the Engineers would rattle off five straight goals, starting with back-to-back strikes from Hotson and McDermott in a span of 17 seconds in the second.
Beaton beat a Griff defender around the edge for the Engineers's fourth goal, which was followed by Rullers' first career collegiate goal midway through the third. Tapper registered the first score of his career as well with the net empty in the closing minutes.
The Engineers and Canisius will finish their weekend series tomorrow at 5:00 pm at LeCOM Harborcenter in Buffalo.
