Field Hockey Fights Ithaca to Overtime

TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team was dealt a 2-1 loss in overtime against Ithaca today at Harkness Field.

Meara Bury buried the game-winner three minutes into the extra session for the Bombers.

After a scoreless first half, Ithaca broke open the scoring midway through the second quarter to go ahead 1-0.

The Bombers held their one-goal lead until the closing minutes of the fourth, until Abby Peterson forced overtime with a game-tying goal with 2:16 left in regulation.

Peterson received a feed from Emily Dubord and released a strike from the middle of the zone that made its way cleanly through a crowd in front of the Ithaca goal.

Tess Garchinsky logged eight saves to keep RPI close.

The Engineers will next travel to Union to face the Garnet Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
