TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team registered a 3-2 ECAC victory versus St. Lawrence tonight in Houston Field House.
Jack Brackett,
Will Gilson, and
John Beaton each registered one goal, and goaltender
Noah Giesbrecht turned away 29-of-31 shots in the win for the Engineers.
Brackett opened the scoring with a tip-in on a
Dovar Tinling shot at 7:07 in the first period, while Gilson increased the lead three minutes into the second with a blue-line wrister that was deflected by a Saints defender up top but still floated over the shoulder of goaltender Mason Kucenski's shoulder.
Facing a two-goal deficit, St. Lawrence got on the board at 5:37 in the second thanks to Ty Naaykens.
After the Naaykens strike, the two squads would continue to battle at the one-goal margin for the next 33 minutes until Beaton tallied an empty-netter in the closing moments.
Tinling, Brackett, and
Max Smolinski provided one assist apiece in the triumph. Smolinski was active below the blue line as well, as he and defensive linemate
Gustavs Ozolins each blocked three Saints shots.
Looking forward, the Engineers will take next weekend off before returning to action at home against Maine on Saturday, November 30.
