TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team suffered a 6-2 defeat to #5 Maine today in Houston Field House.
Jakob Lee and Nathan Sullivan each found the back of the net for the Engineers today.
The Black Bears opened the scoring in the late stages in of the first period with a pair of goals 21 seconds apart.
Following the quick flurry by Maine, Lee provided RPI its first goal with less than two minutes left in the first, as he was in the right spot to tip in a pass from Max Smolinski.
The margin would stay at 2-1 throughout a clean second period until Sullivan deposited his first career goal on an odd-bouncing score.
Attacking the goal from straight-on, Sullivan released a wrister that missed high over the crossbar, however the shot deflected perfectly off the glass back towards frame before rolling off the back of Maine goaltender Albin Boija into the goal.
The Black Bears would break the 2-2 tie 33 seconds in the third before scoring three more times in the final frame.
Harrison Scott registered two tallies for Maine, as he led a group of five Black Bears with two points apiece.
Smolinski, Felix Caron, and Dovar Tinling each aided the RPI offense with an assist.
Looking forward, the Engineers will next travel to Quinnipiac for a 7:00 pm ECAC tilt on Friday in Hamden, Conn.
