ERIE, PA, - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team scored three times in the final six minutes of the third period to earn a 5-3 triumph at Mercyhurst.
Jack Brackett broke a 2-2 tie with the game-winner for RPI at 13:54 in the third period.
The Engineers outshot Mercyhurst by a count of 75-36, which including a 45-21 margin in attempts on goal. Both teams tallied one goal apiece in each of the first and second periods to keep the score tight until the late stages of the third.
Jakob Lee struck in the first stanza for RPI, followed by a
Tyler Hotson tally in the second.
Brad McNeil and
Felix Caron provided RPI with insurance goals after Brackett put the Engineers ahead for good. Brackett, Caron, Hobson, and Lee all added one assist as well to the scoresheet.
Rainers Rullers and
Dovar Tinling aided the RPI attack with two assists apiece and
Brody Maguire and
Jimmy Goffredo logged one helped each.
The Engineers will hit the holiday break with an overall mark of 6-8-3. RPI will return to the ice at home against New Hampshire on Saturday, December 28.
