WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The No. 14 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team and the Williams College Eephs played to a 3-3 tie on Tuesday afternoon, finishing the 10th inning before the game was called due to darkness. The game is still in progress, with the Engineers and Eephs concluding the game in Troy on May 1.
Both teams scored a run in the second inning, as RPI jumped on the board thanks to a
Catherine Worthington RBI single to score
Alex Ledger - who led off the inning with a single. Williams responded in the bottom of the inning, as an RBI groundout from K. Blanch evened the score at 1-1.
Brooke Sroczinski and Alexis Cook teamed up to hold down Williams through eight innings of play, holding the Eephs off the board. Blanch a S. Leonard did the same for Williams until the top of the 10th inning.
With Leonard in the circle and a runner starting the inning on second, a one-out walk from
Evann McDowell put two runners on base. A pair of wild pitches scored both
Ryleigh Falvey - the runner on second to start the inning - and McDowell to give the Engineers a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the inning.
The Eephs also started the bottom of the 10th with a runner on second, as freshman
Ava Markert wwnt to the circle for her second inning of work. After a lineout to second to begin the inning, K. McGuigan hit a two-run home run over the right center field fence to re-tie the game at 3-3. Markert ended the inning with a pair of groundouts before the game was called to darkness.
The game will resume in Troy on May 1st before the Engineers face-off for another full game against Williams.
