BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team scored three times in the second half to register a 4-2 win at SUNY Brockport this afternoon.
After the first half finished with both sides locked at 1-1, the Engineers netted a goal in the third before striking twice more in the fourth to pull away. All four RPI scores were recorded by four different Engineers in the team victory.
Ria Patel helped RPI jump ahead early, as she tapped in a deflected shot five minutes into the first quarter to propel the Engineers ahead 1-0.
The Golden Eagles would tally an equalizer six minutes left in the first half, however RPI was able to re-take the lead midway through the third quarter when Katie Galgay knocked home an attempt from Grace Johnson.
RPI's advantage would be short-lived, as Brockport scored just two minutes later to bring the action level once again
Tied 2-2 going into the final frame, the RPI attack manufactured a pair of un-assisted goals in the opening 4:05 of the fourth quarter to establish a two-score lead.
Khushi Saini delivered the go-ahead score for the Engineers on a perfectly placed shot before Sophia Brown found the back of the net two and a half minutes later.
Tess Garchinsky made 11 saves in net for RPI. Garchinsky was key in limiting the Brockport to only one goal in the first half, as she turned away nine shots in the opening 30 minutes. Garchinsky and the Engineers defense also fought off 16 corners from the Golden Eagles.
RPI will wrap up its weekend with a 3:00 pm matchup tomorrow at St. John Fisher.
