ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team registered a 2-0 shutout at St. John Fisher this afternoon.
Emily Dubord and Sophia Brown accounted for the RPI scoring, while Ria Patel entered the stat sheet with an assist.
Dubord netted an unassisted strike in the first 15 seconds of the second quarter, while Brown scored four minutes after halftime.
Dubord was able to carry possession upfield for 15 yards before releasing a backhanded attempt at the edge of the shooting arc.
Brown punched home a well-designed RPI corner sequence that featured passes from Lauren McCarthy, Abby Peterson, Dubord, and Patel.
Tess Garchinsky earned her second shutout in an RPI uniform with a 10-save effort. The RPI defense blocked three attempts and Garchinsky turned away four shots in the fourth quarter to preserve the clean sheet.
Winners of two straight, RPI will look to stay hot with a Saturday meeting at Eastern Connecticut State. The action is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm in Willimantic, Conn.
