MANSFIELD, Conn.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team claimed a 3-1 win at Eastern Connecticut State this afternoon.
Sophia Brown, Khushi Saini, and Abby Peterson each registered goals for RPI, while Grace Johnson, Ria Patel, and Molly Atkinson logged one assist apiece to aid the Engineers attack.Â
Brown scored six minutes into the first quarter on a backhand attempt from the middle of the circle to give RPI the early advantage.Â
Saini doubled the margin midway through the second quarter when she knocked home a cross from Patel.Â
Eastern Connecticut cut its deficit to 2-1 shortly after the Saini strike, however the Engineers would maintain their one-goal lead until Peterson provided some insurance with a successful corner opportunity with less than six minutes remaining in the fourth.
RPI outshot the Warriors by an 18-3 margin. The Engineers also earned 19 of the 21 corners awarded on the day.Â
RPI begins a stretch of five home games in its next six contests, starting with a 12:00 pm meeting with Russel Sage next Saturday on Harkness Field.
