ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming and diving team opened its 2024-25 season on the road Saturday, falling 192-110 in a dual meet against RIT. The Engineers showcased strong early-season performances, including multiple event victories and a series of first and second place finishes.
Jason Weller highlighted the day with a pair of individual wins, starting with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.28. He later added a dominant performance in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:57.04.
Weller also swam the opening leg of RPI's runner-up 200 medley relay squad, which posted a time of 1:38.10. He was joined on the relay by
Peter Meehan,
Hayden Dinkin, and
Beckham Palmer.
Dinkin contributed across multiple events, placing second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.33 before earning a win in the 100-yard fly in 52.94 seconds.
First-year swimmer
Tyler Kim earned his first collegiate victory in the 200-yard individual medley, taking the event in 1:58.69.
Samuel Ciegler added a pair of second-place finishes in the longer freestyle events. He recorded a time of 10:16.27 in the 1000-yard free and followed that up with a 4:57.90 showing in the 500.
Rittivuth Chea rounded out RPI's scoring leaders with a strong runner-up effort in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 53.71 seconds.
RPI will next host SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, October 25 at 1:00 pm.
