POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team was dealt a narrow 1-0 defeat at Liberty League foe Vassar College tonight at Weinberg Field.
The Brewers broke through just under 10 minutes into the contest, when Karina Hoffman redirected a feed from Audrey Izzo for what would stand as the game's only goal.
Vassar generated nine first-quarter shots and five penalty corners in the opening half, but RPI's defensive unit, backstopped by seven saves from
Tess Garchinsky, kept the Engineers within striking distance the rest of the way.
RPI registered eight shots in the contest, including five on target.
Ella Pasquarelli led the Engineers with three total attempts, while
Katie Galgay,
Julie Thomas, and
Sophia Brown each added one shot on goal. RPI also drew three penalty corners but were unable to convert.
The Engineers will close of the regular season with a non-conference matchup at New Paltz on Saturday afternoon.
