RPI Triumphs in Dual Meet at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team delivered a dominant performance on the road Saturday afternoon, defeating Vassar College 179–108 in dual meet action.

RPI took control early and sustained momentum throughout the meet with a string of strong showings in the pool and on the diving boards. Samuel Ciegler led the way in distance events, sweeping the 1000-yard freestyle (10:12.26) and the 500 free (4:52.77).

Jason Weller was a multi-event winner for the Engineers, posting victories in the 100 free (48.30) and 100 backstroke (52.34), and later closed the meet as the anchor of the winning 400 freestyle relay. That relay quartet of Tyler Kim, Beckham Palmer, Ethan Young, and Weller combined for a time of 3:15.71 to cap RPI's win.

In individual backstroke events, Rittivuth Chea captured first place in the 200 backstroke (2:01.92), while Max Thompson paced the field in the 200 butterfly (2:03.59).

RPI also dominated diving, with Ian Evans sweeping both boards. He earned 151.95 points on the 1-meter and followed with 151.13 on the 3-meter to complete the double.

Other top performances included Joshua Collins' first-place swim in the 200 freestyle (1:50.86), and Tyler Kim taking second in both the 50 free (22.19) and 200 breaststroke (2:19.33). John Holden was second in the 1000 free, touching in at 10:50.39, and Hayden Dinkin added two runner-up finishes of his own in the 100 butterfly (53.79) and 200 IM (2:04.11).

The Engineers added a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay, with Weller, Young, Dinkin, and Kim clocking in at 1:37.69.

RPI is next scheduled to compete in the MIT Invitational the first week of December.
