MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Robert Morris University this afternoon, edging the Colonials 3–2 behind a balanced scoring effort and strong defensive play.
Sabrina Beaudoin,
Aylah Cioffi, and
Kendal Davidson each scored as the Engineers claimed their third win in the last four games.
RPI struck first late in the opening frame when Beaudoin netted a shorthanded goal at 15:38, intercepting a pass at the blue line and scoring unassisted on a breakaway to make it 1–0. Robert Morris answered before intermission and would pocket the power play goal early in second period to establish a 2-1 advantage.
Trailing by one, RPI found the equalizer midway through the frame when Cioffi buried her second goal of the season at 9:47. The forward finished off a quick transition play set up by
Mia Montanari and
Naomi Forand, giving the Engineers carried that momentum into the closing minutes of the second, where Davidson provided the game-winner. With just 35 seconds left in the period, Davidson stepped into a shot from the right circle off feeds from Cioffi and Montanari, beating the Robert Morris goaltender cleanly for her second tally of the year.
From there, the Engineers clamped down defensively. Goaltender
Maelee Ambrass earned her the win with 33 saves, including 12 in the third period as Robert Morris pressed with an extra attacker.
Georgia Bailey and
Taryn Rathwell blocked four shots apiece, as the Engineers totaled 23 blocks as team.
RPI is home for three of its next four contests, beginning with a 6:00 pm ECAC matchup with Colgate on Friday night in Houston Field House.
