TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team secured three ECAC points with a 4-1 triumph against Princeton tonight in Houston Field House.
Jagger Tapper netted two goals to go along with RPI scores by
Jakob Lee and
Dovar Tinling.
Lee got RPI going at 4:04 in the second, as he utilized assists from
Felix Caron and
Max Smolinski to give the Engineers the early lead at home.
The Tigers answered with four minutes left in the second, however Tapper would cap a power-play opportunity 47 seconds into the third to put RPI ahead for good.
Tinling contributed an insurance score five minutes later, before Tapper took advantage of the Tiger's empty net in the closing stages.
Caron and Smolinski finished with two assists each. Caron paired with
John Beaton to help on the Tapper man-up strike and Smolinski had the lone assist on Tinling's score.
Will Gilson got the assists on the final goal of the night.
Noah Giesbrecht stopped 35-of-36 Princeton shots, marking the fourth time in the last five contests the Engineers goaltender has tallied 30 or more saves.
Looking ahead, the Engineers next welcome conference-leading Quinnipiac to Houston Field House for a 7:00 pm matchup tomorrow evening.
