TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team took Colgate to overtime tonight, however the visiting Raiders notched the game-winner at 2:09 in the extra session to log a 4-3 OT win.
The Engineers faced 2-0 and 3-1 deficits, but battled to back to tie the action midway through the third to necessitate the overtime.
Colgate did all the scoring in the first period before
Dovar Tinling opened the second period with RPI's first goal 63 seconds into the stanza.
Each side would register another tally the middle of the second, as both squads traded power-play goals three minutes apart.Â
Max Smolinski provided RPI its man-up score with seven minutes to go in the second, setting up Arvil Bergmanis' game-tying goal at 10:09 in the third.
RPI began the overtime on a 4-on-3 power-play but were limited to just two shots on goal before Michael Neumeier gave Colgate the win.
Felix Caron was a key facilitator with two assists. Caron worked with
Jack Brackett to start the Tinling scoring sequence before joining
John Beaton on the score line for Smolinski's goal.
Jack Agnew provided the lone assist on the Bergmanis tally.
Noah Giesbrecht made 40 saves to help RPI earn an ECAC point.
The Engineers will close out the regular season with tomorrow night's 7:00 pm tilt against #20 Cornell in Houston Field House.Â
