RPI Stumbles at Cornell

ITHACA, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team was edged 4-2 at Cornell tonight.

Will Gilson and Dovar Tinling accounted for the RPI scoring, as the pair each netted third-period goals to help keep the Engineers close.

The Big Red notched the first two goals of the night before Gilson worked with Jack Brackett and Tinling to cut the score to 2-1 early in the third.

The one-goal margin held for the next 10 minutes until Cornell pocketed its third goal of the night.

Tinling and John Beaton paired to take advantage of an extra Engineer attacker opportunity with three minutes left, however the Big Red scored on an empty RPI net shortly after.

Noah Giesbrecht made 26 saves in net and Max Smolinski blocked four shots to highlight the defensive effort for the Engineers.

Looking ahead, RPI stays in central New York to face Colgate tomorrow at 7:00 pm in Hamilton.
