POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team defeated Vassar to cap an unbeaten 8-0 season in Liberty League play.
With the win, the #9 nationally-ranked Engineers secured the top-seed in next weekend's conference tournament.
RPI won five of the six singles matches on the day, with
Aiden Drover-Mattinen,
Andy Zhu,
Archit Yemula,
Tasmay Shah, and
Nico Luis coming out on top against their respective opponents.
Drover-Mattinen (6-3, 6-00, Zhu (7-5, 6-7, 6-4), and Yemula (6-3, 6-2) were victorious on the #1, #2 and #3 lines, while Shah (6-7, 6-4, 6-4) and Luis (7-5, 6-0) battled for critical wins as the #5 and #6.
Tsubasa Okada and
Joel McCandless paired for the Engineers lone win in doubles play, as the two logged a clean 6-0 win in #2 doubles.
As the number one seed in the Liberty League tournament, the Engineers will meet the winner of Skidmore and Vassar in a Saturday semifinal date at host Ithaca.
