MEDFORD, Mass. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team defeated Amherst 4-3 in its first matchup of the 2025 NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Championship.
Aiden Drover-Mattinen,
Andy Zhu, and
Tasmay Shah produced clutch straight-set singles victories to help RPI advance to the third round of the weekend regional.
Drover-Mattinen defeated Andreas Sillaste 6-2, 6-2 in first singles, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 victory for Shah over Sujit Chepuri in fifth singles.
Zhu, the last tilt to finish with the meet tied 3-3, provided the clinching point with a 6-5, 7-5 triumph against Edred Opie on the #3 line.

Joel McCandless bested their respective doubles opponents to provide RPI with the critical extra point. Drover-Mattinen / Zhu topped Andreas Sillaste / Edred Opie in first doubles, while Okada / McCandless were victorious by a 7-5 margin in second doubles.
The victory sets the Engineers up with a 12:00 pm date tomorrow against regional host Tufts, who took down Goucher 4-0 earlier in the afternoon.
