Field Hockey Rolls to High-Scoring Victory Over Utica

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team put together a dominant offensive performance this afternoon, defeating Utica University 8-1 at Harkness Field. It marked the program's highest single-game scoring output since a 9-0 win over Manhattanville on October 30, 2021.

Eight different Engineers found their way onto the scoresheet, with six recording goals and six notching at least one assist. RPI wasted no time getting started, scoring twice in the opening six minutes. Grace Johnson opened the scoring in the second minute off a corner from Kennedy Campbell, and Sophia Brown followed shortly after with a well-placed finish from a feed by Johnson.

The Engineers added a third just before halftime when Kylie Secker connected off a pass from Brown to make it 3-0. That lead grew quickly in the second half, with goals from Katie Galgay and Brown, her second of the game, pushing the margin to 5-0. Later in the third, Johnson earned her third point of the day with her second assist, setting up a goal by Lauren Savino.

RPI capped the afternoon with a pair of fourth-quarter tallies. Julie Thomas found the back of the cage in the 58th minute, and Khushi Saini made it 8-1 in the final moments following a setup by Isabella Bolinger. The hosts finished with a 37-5 advantage in total shots, including 19 on goal, and earned 22 penalty corners.

In goal, Tess Garchinsky and Olivia Brovak combined for three saves, while the Engineers' midfield and defense limited Utica's opportunities throughout.

Winner of three of their last four contests, RPI will look to stay hot with a Wednesday night tilt against Russell Sage College. The action is set to start at 6:00 pm at host UAlbany.
