ALBANY, N.Y. – Four different players found the back of the cage as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team earned a 4-0 win over Sage College this evening at UAlbany's Alumni Turf.
RPI jumped out to a fast start, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes.
Grace Johnson opened the scoring just 2:25 into the contest, finishing off a setup from
Sophia Brown. Less than seven minutes later,
Lauren Savino capitalized off a penalty corner sequence that featured two blocked attempts before the freshman tucked home an attempt that featured help from
Katie Galgay.
The Engineers struck again just over a minute later, as Brown notched a goal of her own to extend the lead to 3-0. RPI tacked on a fourth and final tally with under four minutes remaining in the game, when Galgay scored off a feed from
Ria Patel to seal the outcome.
The RPI offense out shot Sage by a 32-1 margin and earned 16 penalty corners to the Gators' one.
Olivia Brovak posted the shutout victory in goal to help the Engineers win their third game in a row.
Rensselaer is back in action this weekend at home against Eastern Connecticut State. Start time is set for 1:00 pm on Harkness Field, with the contest playing a part in RPI Athletics Troy Community Day around East Campus Athletic Village.
