ITHACA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team shot a sizzling 63.8 percent from the field and pounded the paint to defeat defending-Liberty League champion Ithaca 88–73 tonight in Ben Light Gymnasium.
Six different Engineers logged double-digit efforts, with
Yechiel Stewart coming off the bench to score a team-high 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting.
Andrew Deppe added 15 points with three steals, and the starting backcourt of
Kellen Driscoll and
PJ Scalisi chipped in 14 apiece. Scalisi added six rebounds and three steals as well.
Dylan Matchett posted 10 points and a team-best five assists to steer an offense that produced 62 points in the paint, 26 points off turnovers, and 18 fast-break points.
RPI led 47–35 at halftime and never looked back after the break, opening the second half with a Driscoll transition three and layering Deppe's interior finishes and Matchett's drives to stretch the margin to 64–47 before extending the margin with late buckets from
Billy Feeks, who also tallied 10 points in the win. The Engineers finished with 37 made field goals, which was the most in a game for RPI this season.
RPI will next challenge RIT tomorrow at 4:00 pm in Rochester.
