TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team earned a runner-up finish at the 2026 Kumpf Invite, hosted today at Robison Pool. The Engineers outpaced Skidmore but were narrowly edged by SUNY Cortland in a tightly contested afternoon.
Samuel Ciegler captured the top spot in the 1,000 freestyle with a winning time of 10:00.80. He was followed closely by
Patrick Epifanio (10:12.16) in second and
Joshua Collins (10:19.63) in third, giving RPI a podium early in the day. Epifanio would later return to notch another victory in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 4:54.87, while John Holden added a third-place effort in 5:06.85.
Jason Weller was a standout for the Engineers, earning a pair of individual wins. He claimed the 200 freestyle in 1:45.95 and followed that performance with a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke.
Hayden Dinkin and
Joshua Collins each excelled in the 200 butterfly, with Dinkin taking the win in 1:58.55 and Collins following in second at 1:59.86.Â
Beckham Palmer took second in the 50 freestyle (22.45 seconds), followed closely by
Ethan Young, who earned third in 22.71. In the 100 freestyle,
Tyler Kim notched a second-place finish to complement his victory in the 100 individual medley (53.96).
Peter Meehan contributed a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.03).
The Mixed 200 Medley Relay squad of
Rittivuth Chea, Elizabeth Rose,
Peter Meehan, and Vera Korff captured first with a time of 1:44.45, while the Mixed 200 Freestyle Relay team of Weller, Korff, Kim, and Pargett touched first in 1:32.11.
RPI will next host Union in a Liberty League dual meet on Friday afternoon.
