CANTON, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team saw St. Lawrence pull away to earn a 5–2 decision this afternoon at Appleton Arena.
The Saints opened the scoring early, but the Engineers responded midway through the first period to draw even. At 12:38,
Sabrina Beaudoin finished a strong even-strength shift by snapping home her fifth goal of the season off a setup from
Gracyn Mackay, tying the contest at 1–1.
St. Lawrence regained the lead on a late first-period power-play goal before adding two more scores in the second to pull ahead 4-1. RPI continued to generate offensive looks and was rewarded again with the power play midway through the second.
Bailey converted the advantage with eight minutes to go in the stanza, as she hammered home a goal from the slot after crisp puck movement from Mackay and Christof. The goal marked Bailey's fifth of the season.
Reese Keating made 37 saves, including 16 in the opening period and 13 more in the second frame.
The Engineers will begin preparations for the annual Mayor's Cup contest versus Union on Saturday at the MVP Arena in downtown Albany.
