ALBANY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team received a pair of goals from
Kendal Davidson, however Union College held on for a 4–3 victory this afternoon at MVP Arena.
RPI had responded quickly after Union opened the scoring early in the first period. Just over a minute later, the Engineers drew even on the power play when
Naomi Forand scored her first goal of the season, finishing a sequence from
Gracyn Mackay and
Charlotte Wensley.
The goal sparked sustained momentum, and RPI capitalized again midway through the period when Davidson jumped into the rush and buried an even-strength goal at 8:50 off a feed from
Mia Montanari, giving the Engineers a 2–1 lead.
Union answered late in the opening frame with an extra-attacker goal to send the teams into the first intermission tied, but RPI continued to generate quality chances through the second period.
Reese Keating was sharp in net, stopping 11 shots in the middle frame and keeping the Engineers within one after Union regained the lead on an even-strength tally and a late power-play marker.
RPI pushed hard in the third period and was rewarded late when Davidson struck again with the extra attacker on the ice. With less than three minutes remaining, Davidson scored her second goal of the afternoon and seventh of the season courtesy of a setup from
Ella Newman-Mixon and
Georgia Bailey to pull the Engineers within one.
RPI continued to press with the net empty in the final minute, generating multiple attempts, but could not find the equalizer.
RPI returns to ECAC play on Friday at home versus Yale.
