Toye Nets First of Season Against #7 Quinnipiac

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team was on the wrong end of a 5–1 decision versus #7 Quinnipiac tonight inside Houston Field House.

The Engineers settled in after Quinnipiac opened the scoring midway through the first period and found their breakthrough at 10:56 of the second. Kyley Toye netted her first goal of the season on an even-strength rush, finishing a setup from Aylah Cioffi to pull RPI within one and swing momentum back toward the home side. The goal capped a strong stretch in which the Engineers generated multiple scoring looks and controlled possession through the neutral zone.

RPI continued to push offensively throughout the middle frame, highlighted by extended shifts from Mia Montanari, Georgia Bailey, and Nina Christof, while Sabrina Beaudoin anchored the faceoff circle. Beaudoin finished with a game-high 12 wins at the dot, and Bailey added nine as the Engineers posted a 28–21 edge in faceoffs.

Defensively, Beaudoin and Kendal Davidson led RPI with three blocked shots, while Taryn Rathwell, Naomi Forand, Gracyn Mackay, Chloe Obser, and Ella Newman-Mixon each stepped in front of attempts to limit second-chance opportunities. The Engineers also killed both Quinnipiac power plays, holding the Bobcats scoreless with the advantage.

In goal, Reese Keating turned aside 25 shots and kept RPI within striking distance through the opening 40 minutes.

Quinnipiac extended its lead late in the second period and added two more goals in the third to secure the outcome, with Kahlen Lamarche factoring into multiple scoring plays.

The Engineers return to the ice tomorrow afternoon as #9 Princeton visits Houston Field House for a 3:00 pm contest.
