ITHACA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team was defeated 3-0 at Cornell tonight.
The Engineers remained within striking distance through the opening period, holding Cornell to a single goal while generating quality looks from
Mia Montanari and
Kyley Toye late in the frame. Cornell extended its lead with a pair of even-strength goals early in the second, but RPI responded with improved puck possession and defensive structure over the final 30 minutes.
RPI finished the night with a 27–24 edge in faceoffs, led by
Sabrina Beaudoin, who won 14 draws, and
Georgia Bailey, who added nine. Montanari and
Alexis Brunet paced the Engineers with three shots on goal, while Brunet also went 4-for-6 at the dot.
Defensively, Bailey topped the squad with four blocked shots while
Kendal Davidson and
Gracyn Mackay each blocked three. RPI turn aside all three Cornell power-play opportunities.
The Engineers next challenge Colgate tomorrow at 3:00 pm in Hamilton.
