Box Score TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over St. Lawrence this evening at TriCity, highlighted by a pair of doubles wins and five victories in singles play.
The Engineers set the tone early in doubles competition, claiming two of the three matches to secure the opening point. At the top position,
Nicole Ridenour and
Anushka Jaiswal produced a decisive performance, defeating their St. Lawrence opponents 6-2 to give RPI early momentum. The Engineers added another doubles victory at the third position as
Gauri Muliyil and
Juliette Ceas combined for a 6-4 win, clinching the doubles advantage for RPI. The tandem of
Victoria Sarabosing and
Kayla Wheeler battled in a closely contested match at No. 2 doubles before falling by a narrow 7-5 margin.
RPI continued its strong play in singles action, winning five of the six matches to secure the team victory. At the top position, Ridenour delivered a commanding performance, earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory to extend the Engineers' lead. Muliyil followed with an equally dominant showing at No. 2 singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 straight-set win.
The Engineers added another point at the third singles position as Wheeler controlled her match throughout, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Sarabosing fought through the most competitive match of the day. After taking the opening set 6-2, Sarabosing dropped the second 6-4 before responding with a strong performance in the match tiebreak to secure the win 10-4.
At the sixth singles position,
Neha Saraswatula completed RPI's scoring with a 6-2, 6-3 victory to cap the Engineers' dominant afternoon. Ceas competed at No. 5 singles and battled in the opening set before ultimately falling 7-5, 6-1.
RPI next faces RIT on the road on Saturday, March 28.
