Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team competed against No. 19 Gustavus Adolphus this evening, ultimately falling by a 5-2 score in a neutral-site matchup.
RPI opened the match with a strong showing in doubles, highlighted by a decisive victory at the third position. The duo of
Gauri Muliyil and
Juliette Ceas combined for a 6-1 win over Ella De Young and Allison Szalay, giving the Engineers an early highlight in the opening portion of the match.
At the top doubles spot,
Nicole Ridenour and
Anushka Jaiswal battled Karina Elvestrom and Kaya De Bruijn before falling 6-3, while
Victoria Sarabosing and
Kayla Wheeler competed at No. 2 doubles against Molly Austin and Lanie Davis.
RPI secured two points through strong individual performances in singles play.
Kayla Wheeler delivered a commanding win at No. 3 singles, defeating Molly Austin in straight sets by a 6-2, 6-3 margin.
Jaiswal added another victory at the sixth position in a tightly contested three-set match, opening with a 6-0 first-set win, dropping the second 6-2, and then prevailing in the decisive tiebreak, 10-8.
Several other matches featured competitive efforts from the Engineers against the nationally ranked opponent. Ridenour battled in the top singles spot against Elvestrom, while Muliyil pushed her No. 2 singles match to a deciding super tiebreak before narrowly falling 11-9 after splitting the first two sets.
The Engineers continue their spring trip with matches against Mary Washington and Capital University tomorrow in Orlando.
