ORLANDO, Fla. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team competed in a pair of matches today at the USTA Campus in Orlando, taking on Christopher Newport and Mary Washington.
RPI opened the day against Christopher Newport, where the Engineers secured their doubles point at the third position. The duo of Aidan Atri and
Felix Puyplat delivered a 6-4 victory over Rainer Christiansen and Alex Seretis, giving RPI its top doubles result of the match. At No. 1 doubles,
Tasmay Shah and
Tsubasa Okada battled Barrett Foster and Vincent Truong in a closely contested match before falling 7-5, while
Gustave Viennet and
Quoc-Uy Vo competed at the second position against Nesh Kumaresan and Gabe Smith.
In singles play against Christopher Newport, the Engineers earned two victories.
Tsubasa Okada produced a dominant performance at No. 2 singles, defeating Truong in straight sets by a 6-3, 6-0 margin. Puyplat added another win at the fourth position, rallying through a three-set battle to defeat Christiansen 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Shah competed at the top singles position against Nathan Russell, while Viennet faced Kumaresan at No. 3 singles.
Debarshi Sen represented RPI at No. 5 singles against Foster, and Atri completed the lineup at No. 6 singles against Smith.
Later in the day, the Engineers returned to the courts against Mary Washington. In doubles competition, Viennet and Vo provided RPI's highlight with a 6-4 victory at the second position over Evan Fisher and Will Fromherz. Shah and Okada represented the Engineers at the top doubles position against Trevor Rein and Asher Willenborg, while Atri and Puyplat competed at No. 3 doubles against Ryan Gipner and Jack Riordan.
Singles play featured several competitive matches before Mary Washington secured the team result. Shah competed at No. 1 singles against Willenborg, while Okada battled Rein at the second position after capturing the opening set. Viennet also contested a tight match at No. 3 singles against Riordan, and Puyplat opened his fourth-position singles match against Fisher before play concluded. Sen and Atri represented the Engineers at the fifth and sixth positions respectively against Gipner and Cooper Lehman.
Across the two matches, RPI highlighted the day with a doubles victory from Atri and Puyplat and singles wins from Okada and Puyplat against Christopher Newport, along with the doubles triumph from Viennet and Vo against Mary Washington.
The Engineers will take on Kenyon College tomorrow morning in their final match of their Florida trip.
